Cooking Gas And Why It Is A Cheaper Option Than Kerosene In Nigeria

Everyone cooks.
From the typical metrosexual, and sapiosexual to the local who lives  by the sea, everyone cooks, at some point in their lives. It is a safe assumption that everyone will cook because everyone needs to eat to stay alive.
The average Nigerian cooks. The average Nigerian uses kerosene and yet cooking gas is cheaper.
A research carried out in Satellite Town in the city of Lagos showed that out of over ten households living in a local area called Akin Joe, only two households use cooking gas while the remaining eight of them used kerosene stove.
The average family spent a total of N8, 000 on Kerosene in a month and N15, 000 in two months while an average family spent about N4, 000 on cooking gas for a duration of two months.
The statistics show that when you use cooking gas in your house, you save about 80% of your income allocated for cooking purposes.
Some of the advantages of cooking gas over kerosene stove are:
  • It is bourgeois:
Been bourgeois is a goal for the class social climber. Everyone sets out to act in a certain way to keep up with the Joneses and get the bag. In the average middle-class family when you are cooking for four people, using popular cooking gas is a quick way to prepare lunch and dinner. Your meals will be prepared in record time compared to when a stove is being used.
  • It is cheaper:
It is not news that things are a lot more expensive than they were five years ago and so everyone is on the lookout for areas that the can cut down costs. One of those areas should be cooking.
The cost of cooking gas is way cheaper than the cost of kerosene. It is really sad that although Nigeria is a crude oil-producing country, kerosene is expensive.
  • It saves you time and energy:
Time management is pretty important. When you have to make breakfast before work daily or make life-saving pasta for the kids before your day starts, you start to value your time. It is pretty obvious that meals get cooked faster when cooking gas is used. The average working woman or the woman who works on the home front will appreciate the convenience of using cooking gas simply because of the time saved.
  • It leaves your kitchen looking neater:
I grew up visiting my grandma at the village and seeing the charcoal designs in the local kitchen she used in the village was an eye-opener on the joys of charcoal painted walls. I spent man a time helping grandma in the kitchen to the consternation of my mom who had to ensure that my pristine yellow dress remained the original colour instead of a charcoal yellow.
  • It is socially acceptable:
It is socially acceptable to use cooking gas for the preparation of our meals. The use of kerosene or firewood is for the rural/local areas of Nigeria.
In conclusion, it is advisable for the rural and local areas to catch up with the urban areas of Nigeria. In some areas in Nigeria, gas is already being used to power generators since they are a cheaper source of power.
